NWL Improves Water and Sewer Field Worker Efficiency by Switching to Panasonic

NWL provides water and sewage services to 4.5 million people throughout England. The water and sewage company had been equipping their field teams with PDA devices and laptops. However, since customer-facing technicians and maintenance teams were forced to carry multiple devices to do their jobs and the communications capabilities were out of date, NWL knew the time had come to seek out a new mobile device for its field workforce.

NWL, including Northumbrian Water and Essex & Suffolk Water, set out on a rigorous selection process that shortlisted eight different mobile devices for testing. It then invited 30 field staff to a series of workshops, where they were split up into two different groups to test and evaluate a variety of devices. The Panasonic Toughpad FZ-G1 tablet was the clear choice for both technicians and maintenance teams.

Since rolling out 500 tablets to its NWL field workers, Richard Knaggs, Change Manager at NWL, said the Panasonic devices have “opened up a world of new possibilities for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of our workforce.”
