RCE Video Productions Captures Raceway Heat with AG-AF100A
For the past year and a half, cinematographer Myles Williams, principal of RCE Video (Baltimore, MD), has used his AG-AF100A large imager HD camcorder as his primary acquisition tool in his extensive action work for the K-PAX Volvo Racing team, which competes in the Pirelli World Challenge series.
Myles established RCE Video in March of 2007 when he started working for the Speed Channel (the nation’s foremost motorsports network) alongside renowned motorsports journalist Bob Varsha. Myles has covered Speed GT and Touring car racing and the American Le Mans Series races in North America (ALMS). With his background as a racing instructor and a few podium finishes of his own in semi-pro series, he really understands how to shoot automobile racing. He has shot video over the pit wall and in the pits as well as reality TV style, as race cars have been repaired and prepared in the final minutes before a race.
Myles has also covered, IndyCar Racing, international auto shows, fashion shows and corporate trade shows with his AF100A. Since 2011 RCE Video has provided exclusive video content for the Volvo Cars of North America-backed K-PAX Racing team.
Myles rented an AF100A late in 2011, and “instantly fell in love with the shallow depth of field.” “I had been using a 1/3-inch CCD camera for shooting motorsports, so this larger sensor camcorder just made a major impression on me,” he said.
He went on to purchase the Panasonic camcorder , which off-track he has also deployed for a reality-based web series, for fashion editorial behind-the-scenes shoots, and for a Caribbean-based cooking show.
“When I made the switch from a conventional ENG camera to the AF100A, all of my clients took notice,” Myles said. “Each critique included ‘love the film look,’ and mentioned how much easier it was to focus on the subject or talent.”
