One Voice, One Vision: National Health IT Week Raises Awareness on the Value of Technology in Healthcare

This week marked the 7th Annual National Healthcare Information Technology (NHIT) Week, created in partnership with the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). NHIT Week included events across the U.S. and a conference series in Washington D.C., uniting key healthcare constituents such as non-profit organizations, healthcare facilities, vendors, congressional leaders, payers, biotech companies and industry thought leaders, to highlight the necessity of advancing health IT to improve healthcare delivery nationwide.

Panasonic joined the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC), the American Nurses Association (ANA) and a variety of other healthcare industry leading groups, as an official partner of the 2012 NHIT Week. This year’s event, entitled, “One Voice, One Vision: Transforming Health and Care,” is focused on raising awareness about the value of advancing health IT to transform a patient’s medical experience through technology.

While there were various events and conferences taking place on both a regional and local level in collaboration with NHIT Week, the main stage portion of the program transpired in Washington D.C. Program highlights included a Health IT Meaningful Usability Summit 2012, Nursing Informatics Conference, HIMSS 11th Annual Policy Summit and Capitol Hill Steering Committee on Telehealth and Healthcare Informatics’ Health Information Technology Showcase.

At Panasonic, we understand the essential role information technology plays in healthcare. Advancements in this field have helped to increase patient safety, decrease medical errors, strengthen the interaction between patients and their healthcare providers, and ultimately improve the quality of healthcare delivery. Panasonic is a proud to be a 2012 NHIT Week partner, to help not only further develop the role of IT in medical care but to also highlight how technology has transformed the healthcare market.

Carolyn M. Clancy, MD, Director, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, captured the ideology behind NHIT Week best when she recently noted, “Just as a carpenter finishes his work by making sure that his hammers, chisels and saws are clean, sharp and ready for the next project, so should we take pride in and look after our health IT tools and systems. In essence, that’s what we’re doing at this moment, as the health IT community convenes for National Health IT Week.”
